KYBN advances evidence-based action on marine plastic pollution, recognising that effective solutions require more than downstream effort. We have developed an online platform that helps analyze data from brand audits conducted along the Kenyan coast to help understand where plastics come from, how they move through coastal and marine ecosystems, and what impacts they have on biodiversity and communities. Through community-based monitoring systems, KYBN generates and uses data to identify pollution hotspots, document plastic types and sources, and strengthen the evidence base for policy and conservation action. Our work, including the Plastic Off Turtles initiative, connects field-based evidence with advocacy, education, public awareness and practical interventions, placing young people at the forefront of efforts to understand and reduce the growing threat of plastic pollution to Kenya’s coastal and marine ecosystems.
